Personal Challenge: Dare to BE Fearless
Out in cyberland today, sifting through all the clutter to bring my Luxies only the best of the best, I ran across a quote that struck a nerve and provoked a bit of inspiration:
“Only those who are asleep make no mistakes.”
Wow, short, and powerful. Thought provoking, at the very least, and it got me to explore the areas in which we hold back simply due to the fear of failure or the possibility of making a mistake. These hesitations come in packages of all shapes and sizes, wrapped in beautiful shiny bows with cute little names tags like, un-pursued stale dreams, emotional disclosure choke hold, vulnerability brick wall, affection stop light, personal expression blockage, conflict avoidant…well, you get the idea! While the presentation of these boxes may be pretty, the contents are by no means a gift.
Refraining from action with good intention suppresses the spirit and keeps us from truly embracing and expressing ourselves. And all this at the cost of a feared outcome that is usually never as bad as initially imagined. Holding back simply because of the fear of failure and the possibility of things not working out exactly as we want is no longer an option. We are on this planet for a purpose, which includes learning and growing sometimes through trial and error, and that means making mistakes.
My challenge for you is to walk into the fire and be brave enough to risk the possibility of not being perfect. It is called being human. Ask yourself: Where are you holding back in your life? What are you afraid of?
