PFW: Christian Dior, Isabel Marant & Sonia Rykiel S/S 14

Florals, shimmery lurex and sheer lace were key to the S/S 14 Paris runways of Christian Dior, Isabel Marant and Sonia Rykiel.

Christian Dior S/S 14

Spring is always the time for floral displays on the catwalk, and Christian Dior’s S/S 14 collection made the most of this trend. The designer played with textures and prints, with schoolgirl badges on tops and jackets, and slogans printed across floral strapless dresses. Blazers were double-breasted and paired with pleated print shorts. Day skirts were seen in bias sunray pleats for a charming effect and sweaters were sheer. Classic shirting was revamped and twisted to mold to the body, and cropped jackets were deconstructed. Chic striped peplum dresses, printed shiny tops with cigarette pants and silver jacquard dresses were standouts. Think sophisticated, sexy garden party attire and that’s Dior for next season.

Isabel Marant

Laid-back, summery styles were key on the Isabel Marant S/S 14 runway. Sure-to-be coveted footwear in the form of the designer’s take on the Birkenstock was ever present, pairing perfectly with lace camis, frayed denim, flirty skirts and short, ruffled summer dresses. Trousers were slouchy capris, with button detailing, for a menswear contrast to sheer lace tops. Blazers were worn with shorts and ruffled mini skirts. Sheer floral prints were seen in shorts, tops and mini dresses. The feminine feel in this collection was offset with just enough menswear touches to somehow seem even more girly than ever. Ruffles with a double-breasted blazer? The Isabel Marant girl says, “of course.”

Sonia Rykiel S/S 14

There was a decidedly Parisian feel to the Sonia Rykiel runway, with glimmering Lurex jackets paired with mid-calf skirts and the occasional beanie beret. There were wide, calf-length pants as well as fluid jersey tops, long skirts and tank dresses. The Rykeil woman will be wearing mostly peach and pale pink in the spring and summer, accented by a few striking prints with a modernized nature vibe. Fur stoles were also given a nod, which was an appropriate glam accessory to the sleeveless Lurex dresses.
