Q&A with Omerta: Jewelry that keeps a secret

Anthony Dreyer’s line of chic jewelry is rooted in the idea of keeping a secret. Yet he didn’t mind revealing a few of his own secrets to LadyLUX. We sat down with Dreyer to find out the scoop behind his jewelry line Omerta amd how he got to where he is today.

LadyLUX: So bracelet making in camp was your beginning. What was the attraction of fashion and designing, especially at such a young age?

Dreyer: My father was in the garment business, and my mother was a talented and frequent shopper – I accompanied her every Wednesday into Manhattan for a day of shopping and tea at the Plaza. So an interest in fashion and design was part of my childhood.

LL: What made you decide to take the plunge and start your own line?

Dreyer: In my “day job” as an agent, I was working closely with a jewelry designer who, quite frankly, wasn’t doing the design work. I stepped in to help rescue a project and ended up designing the entire collection. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to channel my love for design from something I was doing casually for friends to a professional endeavor.

LL: Describe your jewelry. What sets your collection apart?

Dreyer: I like to say my jewelry is for the girl who carries a Birkin that’s filled with stolen hotel ashtrays. It’s cute, chic, but it’s got a bite to it.

LL: Tell me: Why do you say your items keep a secret?

Dreyer: The Omerta line was inspired by my “family” history and my high school obsession with Morse Code. My friend Jennifer and I would pass notes constantly and, of course, get in trouble. By putting the message in code, the secret was safe with us. For the jewelry, it allows any message to be told, whether it’s for your best friend or a secret F-U to your frenemy. Everything from “Love of My Life (LOML)” to “golddigger” for a bridal shower gift.

LL: Why, ultimately, should women buy your pieces?

Dreyer: The design is timeless and easy to wear alone or stacked. You never need to take it off. And also, don’t we all have a secret?

LL: Where do you get your inspiration?

Dreyer: The colors and edge of street art and, yes, the sometimes catty nature of fashion and society.

LL: Why did you particularly hone in on bracelets?

Dreyer: I am a giant fan of wrist candy.

LL: What do you love most about fashion and designing?

Dreyer: The unlimited opportunity to combine color, creativity, expression … you name it.

LL: What is the secret of your success?

Dreyer: In the spirit of Omerta, I’ll never tell!

LL: What is the future for you? Anything new or different coming down the pipeline?

Dreyer: Expanding Omerta and the full Anthony Dreyer line into other categories. Stay tuned!
