Radar: Balenciaga unveils first men’s store in Paris

On June 24, Balenciaga will open the doors to their first men’s boutique in the city of Paris. Definitely created for men, the 650-square-foot space is compared to a submarine with metal accents in alternating shades of blue, yellow and a minimalist, modern design, far more masculine than their stores for the ladies. Isabelle Guichot, Balenciaga’s CEO, told WWD, “It’s definitely a concept made for men. It’s not a masculinization of the women’s concept.” Designer Nicolas Ghesquière collaborated on the project, bringing his signature futuristic touch to the unit, with bright white lighting and blank walls, giving the second level a sterile feeling. Ghesquière is known for bringing this element to his women’s collections and, rumor has it, he might extend his aesthetic to the men.

The boutique opens Thursday, along with sister boutiques in Osaka, Tokyo, and London. When discussing Balenciaga’s expansion in terms of men-only boutiques, Ghesquière said the brand does “very well in Japan because it’s probably one of the most fashionable markets for men.”

Located on the Left Bank amongst Polo Ralph Lauren and other big names, Balenciaga is sure to have Parisian men dressing dapper in no time.
