Retail Tech Revolution:  The New ‘Cloud Tech Wave’

Combining forces between fashion designers, retailers and social media has already begun. Though, expect a new powerful force to soon be present with ‘cloud computing.’

“Cloud computing will reduce retailers’ need for IT staff,” said fellow panelist Howard Morgan of First Round Capital. “You don’t have to run a big data center 24-7. You can outsource a lot of the physical aspects of managing a data center to the cloud and focus on your mission-critical retail systems.”

This new feature will be a combination platform that integrates social media, mobile and retail power all in one location and will be available to anyone with Internet access! Imagine your own favorite designer launching something and allowing you to have immediate access via your own mobile device. Well, this will be available very soon!

They’re calling this new tech-revolution in the fashion industry the next third-wave Web that’s all about integration and collaboration at a much higher level. Think of what Gmail did for email and other shared Internet services and how this can impact the future of the fashion industry.

For some it will come in the form of point and click ‘sale systems’ for smaller retailers directly online or through the iPhone.

This new ‘cloud wave’ is aimed to reduce costs of implementation and almost make previously used data systems become obsolete! This is wonderful news for small business owners and boutique fashion brands. It will help to reduce costs and make them much more accessible to everyone.

One of the most advanced up and coming systems to keep on your radar is ShopKeep.com, which utilizes this new cloud POS. It’s not only backed by a big secure firm like Amazon.com, but it also has affordable partners that offer secure credit-card processing and other online shopping necessities to enhance the customer shopping experience. So it not only offers peace of mind for the owners, it also does the same for the customer! That is what we call a LUX-tastic technological solution! Now in beta, expect this system to come full force some time this year.

Another soon to be application will include a ‘news ticker,’ which will alert any shop owner if a major magazine story or article was written about a particular product they carry. This offers them instant access to write about it on their own blog and they can be linked to the original article. As you can see, this immediate and up to date access to information would make the synergetic capabilities even more viable for the marketing efforts of smaller fashion houses!

Now they do have some downsides to this integration platform, like ensuring safety as well as making sure it will work with previously held technology systems and codes. Though for now, it definitely sparks an interest in the tech-savvy arena, we’re curious to see how this will affect the way we shop and run our businesses!

We’re super excited to see this level of advancement aimed at the retail and fashion industry! We believe in supporting innovations and utilizing technology to create unity and fluidity from a user standpoint. This new web development focus with cloud computing just might be what helps to launch the fashion industry into the 21st century!

So LUXies, what do you think of this idea of ‘cloud computing’ and having up to date access to your FAV designer or store? Do you support the idea of integrating all of the separate systems into one? What are your insights on this new trend report?
