Smart Appliances for the Health of Our Planet: Is it Time to Upgrade?

As advancements in technology increase, the quality of our appliances and gadgets also improve! Creating appliances that can automatically regulate themselves. This equates to LUX advantages for both the environment and consumers!

The largest advantage to more technologically advanced appliances for our environment includes the reduction of coal power plants, due to the decline for electricity. This has a huge affect on the health of the planet as well as your pocket book. Saving you the much needed cash and without the headache of having to think about it.

These new advancements allow for the appliances to start thinking for themselves. This takes the responsibility of energy saving approaches out of the hands of each of us and allows the appliance to think about this for us.

Smart appliances can be controlled remotely by a power company to go into energy-saving mode or shut off during times when there is high demand for electricity. Consumers could override the feature but likely will pay more for power during these periods. Over time, wide use of smart appliances could save consumers money and cut the number of power plants needed to satisfy electricity demand, reducing power-industry pollution. The appliances aren’t expected to be priced much higher than regular EnergyStar products, according to WSJ.com.

Many companies are making green their focus for the future and utilizing ‘smart-grid’ appliances that use external signals for regulations of energy. For instance, General Electric Co. continues to take large advancements in introducing ‘smart’ appliances, many which will be introduced this fall. One notable mention includes a smart-version water heater, which will be the first of its kind. Whirlpool Corp. has also committed to producing more ‘smart’ clothes dryers by 2011 and says all of its electronically controlled products will be using signals via a smart grid by 2015.

So LUXies, what do you think about these new ‘smart appliances’? Do you see the value of having advanced technology utilized on an individual basis?
