At Paris Fashion Week: Ruffles
While spring ensembles may scrimp on length, they definitely go the extra mile with detail. Feminine frills, such as ruffles, were a major trend at the Paris shows, appearing on everything from blouses and blazers to skirts and dresses.
Collette Dinnigan started off her Spring 2011 show today by revealing her adoration for the femme trend. She also played up another detail that’s been visible at the shows: eyelet. An easy pick for Easter or an early springtime dinner, the simple, layered frock in delicate, white eyelet managed to be subtle and sexy at the same time.
Nina Ricci wasn’t afraid of adding some volume to her spring looks. Pink and ruffles were her two trending details in her Paris presentation, and this look (pictured above) shows them both, reinterpreting a frilly, pink dress in a bossy, modern way.
Flapper or Asian? It was hard to pointpoint John Galliano’s inspiration, which came to fruition in a theatrical presentation on Sunday. With models wearing his signature, over-the-top makeup – big, dark lips with dramatic, doll-like eyes – Galliano’s pieces simultaneously channeled two styles. His collection showcased both the 1920s Prohibition gal and the Asian-inspired look, with ruffled, silky dresses and slicked back hair mixed among models draped in kimono-esque frocks holding Asian parasols.
