Editorialist Launches as Luxury Accessories Site

Focusing on luxury accessories, e-commerce site, Editorialist, showcases a top edit of accessories by cofounder Kate Davidson Hudson. Taking on a niche model of Net-a-porter, she said the site will often carry more “editorial” pieces as seen on the runway that never make it to production.

Hudson and cofounder Stefania Allen, left their positions as accessories director and senior accessories editor at Elle respectively to develop the new venture which has secured first-round seed funding. Hudson told WWD, “You can shop most of what we editorialize. We buy into the pieces that we feel the most directional — whether up and coming or established. A lot of the pieces will skew more editorial, whereas the mass retailers might buy the lower heel.”

Every three days, the content to commerce site will feature a new story with corresponding products including trend stories and tastemaker picks. Hudson assures the content heavy platform is sure to change as pre-fall collections from Kelly Wearstler, Chloe, Valentino and other designers trickle in. Hudson also reveals that the site will open up exclusive advertising spots to “specific luxury houses” by the end of the month. Currently a team of seven, Hudson projects $500,000 in sales for the first year.

Hudson and Allen collaborated with Jennifer Fisher as the first designer to sign on with the e-tailer with a custom brass link bracelet. It’s also the first place online to carry David Webb and an exclusive small capsule collection. Other items for sale include jewelry from Bernard Delettrez, Lele Sadoughi and Kimberly McDonald.
