Plaza Hotel Opens Doors to “Great Gatsby”-Inspired Fitzgerald Suite

With the release of “The Great Gatsby” movie remake directed by Baz Luhrmann, the Plaza Hotel has introduced the brand new “Great Gatsby”-inspired hotel suite called the Fitzgerald Suite designed in homage to the author of the literary masterpiece. The New York City hotel has opened the suite’s doors days before the premiere of the film on May 10th, reported The New York Times.

Located just down the hall from the Plaza’s famed Eloise Suite, the Fitzgerald Suite is set on the 18th floor of the hotel. Priced at $2,795 a night, the 700-square-foot-room offers guests a look into F. Scott Fitzgerald’s world designed by the film’s Oscar-winning set designer, Catherine Martin. Martin incorporated Fitzgerald’s two main interests into the suite with a library nook and a built-in bar. The suite also features modern day technology with a 3-D television.

“You should feel it’s a room that Scott and Zelda would have stayed in but with the comforts of today,” Martin told The New York Times.

Home furnishing company, Restoration Hardware, provided the Deco-inspired furniture, chandeliers, rugs and even the paint to complete the roaring 20s theme. The signature color of the Fitzgerald Suite, Subtle Velvet Graphite, evokes “wistfulness” and a glamorous feel to the entire room making the Jazz Age come to life. The room would not feel finished without being outfitted in framed photos of the film’s characters Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan and even Fitzgerald himself on the walls and around the suite.
