National Philanthropy Day to Honor Those Who Give Back

National Philanthropy Day is a special day set aside to recognize and pay tribute to the great contributions that philanthropy and those people active in the philanthropic community have made to lives, communities and the world. On Thursday November 15, charitable organizations, businesses and volunteers will join together to honor and celebrate their hard work at this exclusive event.

Created in 1985 and founded in 1986 by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), National Philanthropy Day (NPD) is a day to pay tribute to the billions of dollars and volunteer hours given to numerous organizations all around the world. Great things are achieved every day because of philanthropic efforts and their commitments to causes from feeding the hungry and clothing the needy, to curing the sick and saving the environment.

“On National Philanthropy Day, charities around the world thank you for your support. Your involvement—whether it’s mentoring, volunteering, giving, staffing an event or showing your support on social media—makes philanthropy possible, and makes National Philanthropy Day so meaningful,” said the National Philanthropy Day organization.

Every year, over 100 AFP chapters throughout the U.S. and Canada celebrate this holiday by recognizing their local philanthropies and holding NPD award ceremonies.

Orange County has its own AFP chapter and will be holding its Annual Awards Luncheon this Thursday with the theme, “Giving is Always in Season.” The top philanthropists of Orange County will be honored at the 27th Annual National Philanthropy Day Orange County Luncheon Celebration. The luncheon will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Garden Grove, Calif. National Philanthropy Day Orange County has become one of the area’s most popular philanthropic events.

The NPD honorees will receive their awards at the NPDOC luncheon. The nine 2012 Outstanding Honoree award winners are Joann Leatherby for Outstanding Lifetime Achievement, Ronald M. Simon for Outstanding Founder, Assistance League Anaheim for Outstanding Philanthropic Group, Bruno Serato for Outstanding Philanthropist, Joe Lins for Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser, Nikita Urs for Outstanding Youth or Youth Group, The PIMCO Foundation for Outstanding Large Corporation or Business, Farmers & Merchants Bank for Outstanding Mid-Size Corporation or Business and S.D.
