Fashion Week style: Gimme some edge

We’ve given you great day looks and great night looks. But now it’s time to bring the two together and show you pieces to help you stand out when you’re hitting the runway shows this September.

No two gals are alike, so kicking off “The Show” series is an edgier look that uses the dress as the statement piece and then complements the chic ensemble with some sky-high pumps and eclectic jewelry. The Cocoon Dress by Elise Overland could be confused for a modern ‘80s painting. The print is attention getting, yet it’s not too loud – so you won’t be distracting anyone from what’s on the catwalk. Worn draped beautifully over the shoulders, it’s the perfect shape for early fall, giving a little bit more coverage and warmth without hiding too much skin.

In honor of Alexander McQueen, who passed away in February, it’s nice to don something by the style pioneer at the shows. These Skull Drop Earrings somehow manage to be subtle, with a gun-metal tone with freshwater pearls and dangling daggers.

Speaking of daggers, if you want to be dressed to kill, you’ll need a little bling at New York Fashion Week. This Rhinestone Bracelet by Made Her Think sparkles on the arm, but doesn’t cause too much commotion. Although it’s important to catch the camera’s eye, it’s also a good rule of thumb to keep accessories simple at NYFW. No one wants to be on the “Worst Dressed” list for wearing a tad too many bangles. Am I right?

Since the accessories are minimized and the dress is the focal point, sometimes it’s good to add simple rings, such as this knuckle ring by Elizabeth and James. It’s interesting enough to make a statement, but won’t make the outfit over-the-top.

Last, but not least, is a gal’s best friend: shoes.

If there is ever a time to rock a 5-inch heel, it’s at New York Fashion Week. These Fendi pumps are oozing with class, but also go with the offbeat aesthetic of the look, rocking a Fendi charm and an insane stacked platform.

Stay tuned for more show looks from LadyLUX. If you haven’t checked out our series, read “A Night Out” and “Daytime Chic” for what to wear about town.
